REV. MARY DOWNEY ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR OSCEOLA COUNTY COMMISSION, DISTRICT 4

Rev. Mary Downey, the 2019 Orlando Sentinel Central Floridian of the Year, housing justice advocate, community leader, and long-time Osceola County resident has announced her candidacy for Osceola County Commission, District 4.

With a proven track record of addressing community challenges and a deep understanding of the needs of Osceola families, Rev. Downey brings bold leadership and innovative ideas to one of the country's most dynamic counties.

As the founder and CEO of Hope Partnership, Rev. Downey has spearheaded efforts to foster economic stability, combat homelessness, and build affordable housing in Osceola County. Under her leadership, Hope Partnership has become a model for collaborative and creative solutions that address the root causes of poverty while empowering families to succeed. 

"Osceola County is experiencing tremendous growth, and with that growth comes both exciting opportunities and significant challenges” Rev. Downey said.

“I’m running for County Commissioner to prioritize affordable housing, promote the arts, champion sustainable development, and address transportation needs. My campaign is dedicated to giving District 4 residents a strong voice on the County Commission and tackling growth with thoughtful, forward-thinking policies that work for everyone."

Rev. Downey’s candidacy is deeply connected to her personal journey. Having experienced the challenges of poverty and homelessness firsthand, she understands the importance of creating equitable opportunities for all.


A former journalist turned minister and nonprofit executive, she has spent her career bridging gaps, amplifying voices, and ensuring that kindness is backed by meaningful action.

Her campaign priorities include:
